Learn LaTeX
All mathematics students (indeed, all science, engineering, social science, and humanities students!) should learn LaTeX. Here are a few links that you may find useful for learning and becoming proficient in this fabulous typesetting system.
- A LaTeX primer can be found here.
- The LaTeX project website.
- A Wikibook on LaTeX can be found here.
- On this web page you can draw a math symbol and the computer will tell you how to create that symbol in LaTeX.
- JHU doctoral students can download a LaTeX template for their dissertation here.
A Sample Paper
I’ve written a sample mathematics paper that includes many of the most widely used LaTeX features. You can go through the source files paper.tex
and paper.bib
to see how the final product paper.pdf
is created.
Click here to access the files in my Github repository.
AMS LaTeX
The American Mathematical Society’s tools for LaTeX are excellent.
Beamer
If you plan to give a presentation, I highly recommend that you learn how to use beamer.
