Admissions
The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Johns Hopkins University welcomes your interest in its graduate program.
To ensure timely consideration of your application, please complete the items in the following checklist at your earliest convenience.
- Read the self evaluation checklist before you start the application process.
Note in particular that under University guidelines, exceptions to the TOEFL- score criteria appearing in the checklist will be granted only in extraordinary cases. - Complete the online JHU APPLICATION, including personal statement, signature page, and non-refundable $75 application fee.
- Complete the supplementary course form [PDF], providing detailed information about your mathematical background, and return it to the Graduate Admissions office.
- Arrange for scores on the GRE General and GRE Advanced Test in Mathematics (or in your undergraduate major) to be sent to the department by the Educational Testing Service. (Photocopies are unacceptable and will be discarded.) Applicants are encouraged to take the GRE as early as possible during the academic year preceeding entrance. Please note that the GRE Advanced Test in Mathematics is recommended, but is not required.
- If English is not your native language, arrange for TOEFL Examination scores to be sent to the department by the Educational Testing Service. (Photocopies are not acceptable, and will be discarded.)
- The GRE code for applying to graduate programs at The Johns Hopkins School of Engineering is 5332 and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics code is 0702. Foreign students please use TOEFL code 54.
- Arrange for three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your abilities and achievements, especially relevant to graduate study in the mathematical sciences, to be sent to the Graduate Admissions office.
- Arrange for official transcripts of all undergraduate and previous graduate study to be sent to the Graduate Admissions office.
The deadline for a fall application is January 15 for receipt of ALL application materials.
The deadline for a spring application is September 15 for receipt of ALL application materials.
